If you have travelled around Germany or when you get the chance to, you can agree with me that Frankfurt is unlike any other German cities. It’s a mix of concrete, glass and tall skyscrapers and green spaces. It is, in fact, one of Europe’s focal finance and business hub attracting thousands of business travellers weekdays. If you go there over a weekend you will be impressed how quiet the city is, allowing you to explore it peacefully.
WHERE TO STAY
Marriott – my hotel choice for Frankfurt was at the Marriott, which holds a country record for still being the highest hotel in Germany. Comes without saying that the view from there was simply supreme! Loved the friendly and welcoming staff as well as the comfort of the room <3
WHAT TO EAT AND WHERE TO EAT IT
Frankfurter (German sausage) |Appelwoi (cider) |Frankfurter Rippche (slow-cooked pork served hot with Sauerkraut, potato mash and mustard) |Grüne Soße (green sauce) is a fresh, cold sauce made with eggs, sour cream and seven specific herbs (absolutely DELICIOUS!). If I can recommend a restaurant where to try some very traditional local food right in the city centre I suggest to go to VINUM. Also famous for their wide selections of wines (as the Latin name suggests). I liked this place as it looks like you are in a cellar with actual wine barrels and the food was just incredible!
BRIDGES WITH A VIEW
Below is the view from Flößerbrücke bridge. I’d recommend to go either during the day whilst walking along the river or at sunset to fully appreciate it. It is just superb!
What I particularly like about this city is the urban style. I greatly appreciated the underground architecture and street art, as well as several panoramic spots along the river. Best enjoyed with your friends
If you like beer, German has the most delicious beers I have tried (alongside the ones from Belgium). And NAIV Frankfurt offers the greatest selections of those. Perfect to go after a nice meal in town. Get their selections of 8 crafted beers for the complete tasting experience!
TAKE THE EBBELWEI EXPRESS TRAM
Recommended by a local, the best way to discover the city WHILST enjoy a good local cider (applewine) is to take the ebbelwei express tram. For 8 EUR per ticket (adults) you get to travel around the city passing through iconic buildings and squares. And on top of that, you also get a complimentary drink. It was so much fun!
